The University of Nicosia (UNic) is the largest private university in Cyprus with approximately 14000 students. It is an independent, co-educational, equal opportunity institution of higher education, which offers a wide range of programs to students from around the world. The University offers undergraduate as well as graduate studies in business, science, education and the liberal arts. International in philosophy, the University hosts students from all over the world, in a multicultural learning environment, promoting friendship, cooperation and understanding. The University’s research profile is grounded on a broad-based platform across a wide range of disciplines. It is supported by groups and programmes, dedicated research institutes and individual scholarship structured around and across our Schools. The University, adopting a dynamic and proactive strategy on research and innovation, wishes to reach out to all its stakeholders and to work with them in developing ideas for academic and applied research to better the Cyprus community, country and region. Within these parameters and taking a proactive role in research the University and its researchers are involved in projects both at the EU and national level.
The Social Sciences Department and in particular the Social Work Programme has a very strong profile and background in working with the framework of asylum and migration. They have delivered successfully 20 funded (competive) projects, at both national and European level. Currently they lead a major AMIF project, at national level, in which they have established and run 4 Migrant Information Centres.
The University has an academic and administrative structure consisting of the Council (chaired by the President), the Senate (chaired by the Rector), Schools (headed by School Deans), and Departments (headed by Department Heads). Moreover, it has School and Department Councils with faculty and student participation
