The scientific activity is structured on the broad areas of economic research: economic development; management and institutional structure of the national economy; competitiveness and technological progress; economy of human resources; development and social cohesion, economic history.
Research domains are related to: sustainable development of the national economy, comparative research on the socio-economic aspects, interdisciplinary and applied research on industries and economic sectors development, etc. The thematic researches are focused on different aspects of the socio-economic and technological development FDI, copyright industries, foreign trade, labour market, education, social policies. The research departments and centers are focused on actual topics as: cultural heritage development, migration, skills mismatch, (re)industrialization, smart cities development etc.
INE was also involved in designing strategies and policy measures for economic, social and cultural development at national and regional levels
The Research Centre for Sustainable Development (RCSD) is organized as an interdisciplinary department aimed to provide complex fundamental and applied researches, oriented to well-functioning markets development.
In the last decade there were established and gradually developed institutional components of complex research as support structures for implementing (inter)national, multi, inter, intra and cross-disciplinary projects, strengthening their position of excellence as research laboratories/groups/teams: The Research Team for Innovative Tourism and Cultural Heritage Development; The Research Team for Security and Social-Economic Inclusion; The Research Team for Socio-Economic Analysis and Forecasting, etc.
We have a wide cooperation activity with universities and reseach institutes through international interdisciplinary research projects financed from European funds, Horizon2020, DIVERTIMENTO, COS-TOUR-2015-3-04-1; SEE Program-SAGITTARIUS, SEE/B/0016, Black Sea Basin ENI CBC PROJECT ALECTOR MIS ECT 2617, CEDEFOP- Measuring Performance of EU Member States Skills Systems and Prioritising Skill Mismatches project AO/RPA/KPOUL-AZU/Prioritising_Skill_Mismatches/015/13, ILO, or other sources like projects financed by universities ( Hitotshubashi University – Tokyo, Japan PIE -Project on Intergenerational equity etc.) or EU ( Support for establishing a minimum wage-setting mechanism in Romania” VT/2016/067, DG Employment, Social Affaires and Inclusion, Unit ).
