About Me

Rodica-Mariana Ion is a university professor, researcher, and inventor of Romanian origin, a specialist in chemistry (photochemistry), in investigative analytical techniques, nanomaterials, and nanotechnology usable in the preservation and restoration of objects and monuments of cultural heritage. She is Director of the Council of Doctoral Academic Studies (CDUD) from University Valahia from Targoviste and Ph.D. supervisor at the same university, specialized in Materials Engineering. Also, she is invited as a professor at Architecture Faculty from University Polytechnic in Timisoara, Romania. She has 375 published papers in ISI journals, Hirsch factor 32 in Google Scholar and 24 in Scopus and ISI WEB OF KNOWLEDGE. She is also the author of 40 national/European specialized patents in the country and abroad and has contributed to countless monographs and specialized treatises in fields such as the chemistry of materials/nanomaterials in conservation/restoration of cultural heritage.

In recent years, Rodica-Mariana Ion has initiated a new research direction, unique in Romania: the preservation and restoration of heritage artifacts and monuments (with nanomaterials), focusing on their complex chemical investigations in order to identify the best solutions for the rescue of the investigated parts. She established a new laboratory for physicochemical and mechanical investigations of various materials involved in heritage parts (paper, stone, seals, stucco, etc.), as well as the implementation of a new method of their restoration based on the use of nanomaterials.
