About Me

Ana Isabel Faria Ribeiro-Barros (ARB) Senior Researcher with Habilitation/Head of Lab, Professor of Cell Biology, Plant Biotechnology, and Molecular Plant-Microbe Interactions. More than 20 years of experience in Tropical Research, with a strong component of Research for Development (R4D) during the last 15 years, based on interdisciplinary projects applied to the characterization, conservation, monitoring and management of agro-forestry resources: (i) biodiversity; (ii) plant-environment interactions; (iii) ethnobotany; (iv) human development; (v) institutional and capacity building, with particular emphasis in Brazil and Mozambique. Main partners in Mozambique: International Rice Research Institute, Eduardo Mondlane University, Gorongosa National Park, Lurio University, National Institute for Agricultural Research, Polytechnique Institute of Manica, Zambeze University. Main partners in Brazil: Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo, Embrapa, Universidade de Roraima, Universidade de Viçosa. From 2006 to 2012 ARB was the deputy NCP of Portugal at the European Initiative for Agricultural Research for Development (EIARD), the ARD European Coordination Group (ECG) and the CGIAR Consortium. From 2007 to 2009 ARB was the representative of the Tropical Research Institute (IICT) at the Biosafety Group, in the former European Consortium for Agricultural Research in the Tropics (ECART), now Agrinatura. Other positions : (i) Deputy Director of Department (2006/2009) and Research Center (2006/2015); (ii) Head of Lab (since 2000); (iii) Professor: Universidade de Lisboa, School of Agriculture (since 2015); Gorongosa National Park (since 2018); Eduardo Mondlane University (since 2009), Mozambique; FCT-Nova (since 2016); (iv) Development of courses and education tools and methodologies (since 1998); (v) Supervision: 11 post-docs; 12 PhDs; 9 masters; 13 bachelors; 26 capacity building or short term courses; (vi) 42 Projects in Tropical Research: 16 coordination/9 in R4D; 13 team coordination/10 in R4D; 24 Collaborations/6 in R4D; (vii) 110 Peer-reviewed publications, most in co-authorship  with researchers from Europe (Sweden, The Netherlands or France), Brazil or Mozambique: 13 book chapters; 51 indexed articles (33 Q1); 46 articles in conference proceedings; (viii) Referee in more than 40 international journals ( Plants, Plant and Soil, Forests, Genes, Sciencia Horticulturae, International Journal of Molecular Sciences).
