Profile Summary

Nikolas Vidakis was born in Heraklion, Crete, Greece. He received a BSc(Hons) in Computing in Business from the University of Northumbria at Newcastle in 1993. Dr Vidakis obtained his degree from the Technical University of Vienna in 1997. In the past, he has worked for the Technical University of Vienna (Austria), Minoan Lines (Greece) and the Technological Education Institution of Crete (Greece). During his work at Minoan Lines and the Technological Education Institution of Crete he has been involved in a few Research and Technological Development projects, funded by national and European organizations. From 2005 to 2012 Dr. Vidakis worked as a Lecturer at the Department of Informatics Engineering, Faculty of Applied Technologies at the Technological Education Institution of Crete, from 2012 to 2016 work as Assistant Professor and from 2017 until May 2019 as an Associate Professor at the same department. Since May 2019 he serves as an Associate Professor at the Hellenic Mediterranean University (HMU), School of Engineering, Department of Electrical and Computing Engineering. Between 2006-2016 was a member of the research laboratory iSTLab. In 2011 he has founded the Natural Interaction Research Team (NIRTeam). At 2016 NIRTeam matured to the Natural Interactive Learning Games and Environments (NILE-lab) He has published papers in refereed scientific journals and conferences. His current research interests are in the areas of HCI, , Serious Games & applications, Multimodal Sensing and Natural User Interfaces, Games-based learning, Educational Virtual environments / ecosystems.
