About Me

The Municipality of Heraklion is the largest Municipality of Crete and the fourth largest municipality in Greece.

The Permanent Population of Heraklion Municipality is 173 993 inhabitants (according to the 2011 census).

• For three consecutive years Heraklion ranged on a list of "The World's Smart21 Communities" 21 most intelligent cities internationally and the only city that year across Europe. The list drawn up by the Intelligent Community Forum (ICF), a think tank based in New York who studies the impact of new technologies on economic and social life. Evaluation indicators are broadband connectivity, use of new technologies in the field of employment, innovation, civilian use of new technologies in everyday life and the city's promotional activities against the international competition.

The Municipality of Heraklion in Political extraversion follows is a member of city networks such as "Eurotowns", "Eurocities", "Balkan cities" and "Local Urban Development European Network".
