About Me

Maria Cristina Vila is Assistant Professor in the Department of Mining Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto, where she has been teaching since 1992. BSc in Geotechnical Engineering (1988) and Mining Engineering (1990) from the University of Porto. MSc in Technology and Management of Mineral Resources (1995) by FEUP/IST. Concluded her PhD in 2005 with the thesis "Soil rehabilitation observed through respirometry - signal analysis in biological systems", at FEUP. Responsible for the courses of “Aquifer and Soil Rehabilitation”, “Quantitative environmental risk assessment”, in the Master in Environmental Engineering, and also to the courses of “Dynamical Systems” in Mining Engineering and Geo-environment Bachelor program, and “Control and Instrumentation” in the Mining Engineering and Geo-Environment Master program.

Her scientific research are focused mainly on the following topics: rehabilitation of contaminated soils; bioremediation; monitoring and environmental risk analysis; technologies and waste management of the extractive industry (waste and drainage mining) and; mineral biotechnology.
