About Me

The Institute for Engineering Design at the TUW is in research and education with specific focus on integration of sustainability aspects into product development (Ecodesign) since 1993. The main focus lies in the development of Ecodesign methods and tools and its implementation in companies. This includes tools for environmental assessment (LCA - ISO14040, Carbon Footprint, etc.), tools aiming at product improvement (ECODESIGN PILOT, etc.) as well as instruments for the communication of environmental impacts (energy efficiency label, Environmental product declarations - ISO 14025, etc.). TUW has been involved in several European research projects (Horizon2020, FP7, ERASMUS, etc) as well as in industry projects with companies like Siemens, Philips, Steelcase and Bombardier. Industry areas of interest are electronics, machine tools, textiles, mobility, furniture, etc. and generally all technical products.
