About Me

Huguette Rosemain is the director of Atelier Espoir et Avenir, a non-profit company formed in August 2021 in the southwest of Mauritius. The non-profit organization has a project committed to empowering youth through education support and training skills in rural areas by providing them with all the resources they need to be the leaders of tomorrow. The program is about giving training in bakery, pastry, and culinary. This project aims to reduce unemployment and eradicate poverty in families. The training school will run for nine months per year, the same as the school system in our country. They will have their internship at the establishment mentioned above with follow-up from our trainer until they get hired.

The program is aimed at young people who are having difficulty being hired because they left school halfway through for various reasons. This will help them find a place to work and also become responsible adults. The organization is committed to building a society where every young person can easily realize their potential and achieve their goals. They believe that providing youth with good training is essential to their overall development.

In the area where they live, five hotels recruit every year because of their employees’ retirement. There are many training schools in Mauritius but not for this kind of student. They need more attention and confidence but have all the potential to be good employees.

The program is to give professional training in bakery, pastry, and culinary to these youth who come from precarity. After the training, they will participate in a practical and theory exam and will have a certificate if they get a good result. There will be follow-up during an internship in the hotel by their trainer until they get employed. This training school will be free of charge for these youth because of their financial situation.

The project is very important because too many youths in rural areas are having problems getting hired. They didn’t finish their higher-class schooling and have never attended a training institute. This project will solve the unemployment problem among youth in the surrounding area because there are many more hotels, restaurants, guesthouses, and supermarkets in the region.

The organization plans to train ten participants aged 16-22 in rural areas in each department (bakery, pastry, and culinary) every year; there will be control at the end of the training session followed by certificate-awarded courses.
