About Me

Kocaeli Chamber of Industry (KOSANO) was established in 1989 as Turkey’s 11th Chamber of Industry. The Chamber serves approximately 3.400 obligatory members with its 32 staff working in the headquarter and four branch offices around the province.

Besides the services demanded by law, KOSANO matches its members’ needs through national and international projects, training and consultancy services, trade fairs, exhibitions and business matchmaking events. KOSANO also develops and supports social and cultural activities that help the socio-cultural development of the region. 

The most recent projects of KOSANO cover;

  • Multidimensional and Multicultural Expertise of Human Resources Professionals / MMEHR, 2019 – 2022: KOSANO represented the industry and the HR professionals in the project aimed at supporting teachers, trainers, and students and promote digital integration in learning to reach audiences fostering effective employment, quality improvement of access to the labour market and acquisition of series of digital and multicultural skills that the forthcoming HR professionals can use throughout their careers.
  • Developing a New Service for Turkish Chambers on Coaching Companies on Energy Efficiency, 2019 – 2021: Within the scope of the project, KOSANO conducted Energy Audits with 10 SMEs to demonstrate that it is possible for SMEs to reduce their energy consumption through the implementation of an appropriate energy management system. Following the Energy Audits an Energy Management Plan was prepared for each SME to serve as a roadmap in implementing the recommended energy efficiency measures. KOSANO organized 6 trainings in which 280 participants attended from 265 companies.
  • Building a Regional Habitat for Learning and Innovative SMEs, 2018 – 2020: The project aimed at measuring, comparing and improving innovation management capacities of the SMEs in the region through measurement and analysis of their innovation management capacity and preparation of individual company roadmaps.   
  • Support to the EU Information Centres Network Project, 2016 – to date: The project covers the development of existing EU Information Network as a decentralized information network by the Delegation of the European Union to Turkey in partnership with hosting partner organizations consisting of chambers of commerce and industry. KOSANO is one of the EU Information Centres in Turkey to provide information support through local and regional events on EU policies and programmes, media events and dissemination of information.

To provide an overview of the region; Kocaeli has a rich and vibrant business ecosystem bringing together the quadruple helix actors forming the most convenient environment for innovation, attracting investors, entrepreneurs and scale-ups to the region. There are 14 Organised Industrial Zones, 5 Technology parks, 2 Free Trade Zones, 132 R&D Centers, 17 Design Centers, Provincial Directorates of Ministries, 30 vocational and technical high schools and 2 universities providing education to more than 75,000 students. In the fiscal year of 2021, a total number of 240 patent applications were filed at the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office setting Kocaeli on the 5th place in Turkey’s R&D and Innovation Performance rankings. IT Valley is one of the recent developments in Kocaeli and it’s a technology development zone focused on  ICT, global and local innovation and technology transfer.

Kocaeli has a dense population with over 2M population residing in a rather small area making the province 8th smallest city in Turkey, yet one of the most industrialized city neighbouring Turkey’s greatest internal market, İstanbul. The province is a major hub of manufacturing and the leading industries cover steel, chemicals and cement with high contribution to Turkey’s manufacturing industry while making the region a focal point for entegration to Green Deal.

Kocaeli Chamber of Industry offers its network and expertise to consortiums collaborating to develop projects on twin transition, innovation, entrepreneurship, and skills matching and development to cater the needs of the labour market.
