ALMS was established in 2013. It’s registered in school registry, no: 466/P/N and obtained the status of public school.
The idea of establishing an upper secondary level school with a sports profiles was created by the Chancellor of the University of Economics and Innovation (WSEI) Mrs Teresa Bogacka and the Wikana-Start Club and the regional authorities of Lubelskie Voivodship. The common goal of this endeavor was the interest in supporting career development in sport among talented youth.
The main purpose of the school is to provide students with free of charge education.
The initial operational aim of the school was to educate students who are particularly talented in basketball. The ALMS created the opportunity to group students with the same age, similar skills and abilities in this discipline. The education of the first class of ALMS have started 22 pupils.
The goals of general education were combined with the opportunity for pupils to participate in an extended progressive training process, which enabled boys to enter the profession of basketball and prepare them for competition and professional training at the regional and national level and support with professional career development as basketball player.
After 3 years the school has expanded sport offer with new subjects, such as football, volleyball, ballroom dance, cycling, martial arts.
The school represents an innovative system of cooperation between secondary high school and academic environment. ALMS students participate in scientific research conducted by academic staff of the WSEI Faculty of Pedagogy and Psychology. The Experimental Psychology Laboratory uses the Vienna Test System (reaction test, decision test, diversion of attention, peripheral perception).
The school was given the number of patronages: the Marshal of the Lubelskie Province, the Mayor of the City of Lublin, the Lublin Sports Foundation, the Polish Basketball Association, the Lubelski Basketball Association, the personal patronage of Mr Marcin Gortat – famous USA basketball player.
