About Me

The Mediterranean Institute for Nature and Anthropos (MedINA) is a non-profit organisation established in 2003 and based in Athens, Greece. Its broader aim is to inspire people to recognise the value and connection between the natural and cultural heritage, and to work towards a just and sustainable future through research, working with communities, the exchange of ideas and knowledge, and networking in the Mediterranean and beyond.

Nature, culture and communities are the three interrelated pillars on which MedINA action is based. Its projects aim to connect natural and cultural heritage, to enhance traditional knowledge considering it as a source of innovation and to support local solutions in order to contribute to a sustainable local development.

We operate in different geographic areas and we have many active projects at the moment that cover different fields, from recording and supporting traditional agro-pastoral practices on Lemnos island to working with the transhumant shepherds of the Pindos mountains and restoring micro-dams on the island of Kythera as well as the work on the cultural values of Mediterranean wetlands and the creation of the Vjosa / Aoos River Ecomuseum.

We believe that we can have the greatest impact in our work by enabling a diversity of voices to be heard through the active sharing of ideas and approaches. Bringing people, organisations and visions together is therefore central to our approach at MedINA.
