About Me

The Association of South-Western Municipalities (ASWM) is a non-profit, non-governmental organization uniting 25 municipalities from the South-western region of the Republic of Bulgaria.

The main activities of the organisation are: making contacts with regional and national state institutions; making contacts with civil society organizations; providing expert assistance and consultations in the development and management of European projects; conducting public discussions, training, seminars, workshops, etc.; develops and participates in the implementation of projects under programs of inter-municipal and regional importance; provides consulting, expert and technical assistance to member municipalities; organizes training and seminars; coordinates the activities of regional networks for the development of social entrepreneurship, the European network of women in leadership positions, the European bicycle network, municipal councils, program and project experts and secondary school, teachers.

ASWM has a network of supporters and partners on the territory of the country and beyond. The main partners are state institutions, associations of municipalities, professional associations of municipal employees, business organizations, non-governmental organizations, and media.

ASWM has successfully implemented over forty projects in various areas of socio-economic life, the majority of them being cross-border and transnational.

Currently, ASWM implements projects in the field of the environment - the use of energy from renewable energy sources, composting, development of urban and suburban agriculture; development of social entrepreneurship, and prevention and mitigation of the consequences of natural and man-made disasters with a transboundary dimension and impact.
