Development of new fermentation and separation technologies for advanced liquid biofuels and applied research to increase the energy efficiency of advanced biofuel processes.

The need for disposal of waste cities, the demand for transport of large masses in Brazil and global demands for cleaner fuels with lower CO2 generation are the premises of this need for disposal of waste cities, the demand for transport of large masses in Brazil and global demands for cleaner fuels with lower CO2 generation are the premises of this project.

Obtaining the biogas with more than 60% methane and 20% CO2 is a process widely used in Europe and India. In order to make this gas as fuel for automotive engines, the need to separate CO2 and other impurities to obtain bio-methane containing more than 95% methane. There are several separate routes and this work seeks to identify the most cost-effective for production scale.

Once obtained biomethane, that can be sold to consumers of natural gas, basically industries and the automotive sector, a diesel replacement process, gasoline and other fossil fuels. This activity is already in full use in northern Europe and has not yet been implemented in any state in Northeast Brazil.
