FAL e.V. , founded in 1990 as an organisation to promote regional development in a sparsely populated and deprived rural area has since than developed to an attractive site for education in sustainable development. FAL e.V. with the departments Wangeliner Garten, Clay Museum Gnevsdorf and European School of Earth Building is now attracting visitors from all over Europe. The Wangeliner Garden, the biggest herb garden in Mecklenburg, displays more than 900 plant species, outstanding innovative sustainable buildings, e.g. loadbearing strawbale vaults to accommodate visitors, the garden information centre constructed of rammed earth walls. Over the last 10 years FAL e.V. has been offering courses and seminars in natural buiding techniques and sustainable gardening for learners from the whole of Europe and beyond. FAL e.V. intends to enlarge its educational offer to a wider ecological construction and garding sector with the view to promoting sustainable development. While the European School of Earth Building has already in the past collaborated with a number of partners across Europe developing learning materials and educational concepts, the project Earth Mobile has for the first time created possiblities for the staff of all departments of the association to participate in learning experiences and course programmes across Europe. 38 persons working in all sectors at FAL e.V. : teachers, facilitators, administrative, catering, gardening, volunteers employers - alltogether more than half of the staff - have benefitted from this project participating in learning and teaching activities abroad within the two years of the projects. Alltogether they have been hosted by 12 partners coming from eight European contries: Austria, Cyprus, Estonina, Finland, Poland, Portugal, Schweden and United Kingdom. Staff with and without formal qualification benefitted from the project Earth Mobile, for some of them it has been their first stay abroad. Participants gained or deepenend intercultural, language, social and technical skills. The activities of the project stimulated the development of the sustainable, educational work, promoted flexibilty of the individual, strengthen the capacity for teamwork and the feeling of togetherness within FAL e.V. The individual actions have been developed and prepared in cooperation with the participants and the hosting partners and have been adopted to the specific educational backgrounds, the work area and the interests of the participants. E.g. the volunteer leader of the Clay Museum participated in the educational musem project of the Yamtli Museum, Sweden and was able to share new museum related ecucational concepts; the photographer participated on a one to one training scheme for applying video editing software and was able to producae a small promotional video for ECVET in the earth building sector; two teachers supported the Portuguese partner in taking exams for learning outcomes for rammed earth, a special building technique while improving their competences in assessing learning outcomes, just to name a few actions. A group of 11 persons participated in a course programm in Cyprus. To this end the parnter 'between the lines' developed a tailor made training programme, which allowed for the participants to improve self-reliance, language skills and intercultural competences. Participants developed their occupational skills and deepened their intercultural competences by getting to know art, architecture, crafts and culture of Cyprus. Participants of a group learning action in the ecological orientated community Findhorn in UK had to handle different tasks and have been involved in group learing activities. Particularly this action has already resulted in intense discussions promoting association development as well as in practical improvement f.e. recarding storage of equippment. Earth mobile has been also disseminated in our existing European Partner Network. Some parnters are planning to send their staff to FAL e.V. and have already arranged actions.
