Cristina Silva Pereira

CV Synopsis. I am an Associate Professor at ITQB NOVA, where since March 2008 I am the Head of the Applied and Environmental Mycology laboratory at ITQB NOVA (). My team currently encompasses one laboratory manager (doctorate), two staff scientist (doctorate), five PhD students, five postdoctoral fellows, one master students and three research fellows. To date, I supervised eight ITQB NOVA doctorates (plus one external) and lead two international consortia (EEA and NATO-sfp grants) and three national I&D projects (total funding of >€ 2M). I am also an invited Research Fellow at University of West of Scotland. I have been awarded a Consolidator Grant by the European Research Council (ERC). The funding of almost 2 M€ will allow me to develop the vision of mimicking the functionality of plant polyesters to develop novel and efficient antifungal therapies. I am author of nearly 50 papers in peer-reviewed journals, which cover multidisciplinary topics from plant biochemistry to fungal biology and biotechnology. I have also filed two patents. I have long standing and fruitful collaborations with industry ( Thelial Technologies , Portugal).

My motivation to drive my career to this position stems from a profound interest in filamentous fungi biochemistry and biotechnology.
