Dr. Athanassios N. Samaras is assistant professor in International and Political Communication at the International and European Relations Department, University of Piraeus. He teaches Media and Communication, International Political Communication, Rhetorical Communication and Persuasion, and Cultural Diplomacy. He is the Director of the Strategic Communication and News Media Laboratory at the University of ; He holds a ; in Economics from the University of Piraeus, an in Communication Policy from City University (London, UK) an in Political Communication and Rhetoric from Emerson College (Boston, USA) and a in Political Communication from Sussex University (Brighton, UK).
He has authored two books on political advertising (2003, 2009) and an instructional manual on images of nations and cultural diplomacy (2017). He has edited a book on the images of nations (2014) and a journal issue on political Communication and Brexit (2017, Journal International and European Review). He has authored 33 essays published in peered-review journals and edited volumes and presented more than 100 research papers at international conferences. He has published in Greek, English and French while his work has been translated in Russian and Turkish.
His research interest is on international and political communication, strategic communication and campaigning, public and cultural diplomacy, images of nations and nation-branding, rhetorical communication and persuasion, news media and crisis management, political advertising, talk shows and interviews, communication education and media literacy.
