Subtopic D - Reducing the dependence on the use of antimicrobials in animal production and in aquaculture (IA)

The research team deals with animal nutrition with an emphasis on food safety and animal health. The key topics are the substitution of antibiotics with natural substances (essential oils, monoglycerides) and zinc nanoparticles in monogastric animals. We have been concerned for a long time developing nanotransporters with targeted transport of bioactive compounds in the gastrointestinal tract of animals. They have a huge potential for the transport of antimicrobials. Furthermore, the research focuses on eliminating mycotoxins from the food chain using advanced materials (graphene oxide, a new generation of clay materials). The field of our research also includes the use of natural adaptogens in monogastric animals. In recent years, in the background of the fourth industrial revolution, we have been intensively working on the concept of smart agriculture. We participate in developing smart 2D and 3D cameras to determine live weight online and adjust feed rations according to the current animal requirements. We approach research multidisciplinary to connect animal nutrition with nanotechnologies, microbiology, toxicology, information technologies with overlap into the socio-economic sciences.
