Zvýšení jazykových, odborných a metodologických kompetencí učitelů pro vlastní praxi

The aim of this project, which was carried out at TEGA Blansko secondary and apprentice school, was to increase the language skills of the school management and also to improve the ability of vocational teachers to communicate in English. In the field of methodology of teaching English as a foreign language was the main purpose an improvement in this area and also getting acquainted with new modern teaching methods. Finally, it was also the intention of the project to enhance the ability of teachers in self-assessment methods. Project activities were attended by teachers of English language, vocational subjects, and school management’s representatives. All participants of the project, except of English language teachers, took part in a preparatory language course, after that the journeys to Great Britain (Oxford, Edinburgh, St. Albans) were realized. More specifically two teachers of English language left for methodology courses of teaching English. Six teachers of vocational subjects (in the field of mechanical and electrical engineering) were, thanks to the project, able to attend courses in Britain. These courses were not only language courses, but there were several visits to foreign companies and schools included (according to the specialization of teachers). The members of school management, who attended language courses with elements of management in Scotland, visited the English secondary schools as well. The results of the project are as follows: the ability of communication in English has improved among all the involved school staff. The pedagogical and didactic skills of all participants have increased as well. The project was also a motivation for other teachers and pupils of the school. Thanks to companies’ and schools’ visits have been valuable experience and knowledge obtained, especially about working for foreign institutions. Teachers also gained many photographs that can be used in educational lessons. Due to the project are in English lessons at our school introduced new activities and methods, which is increasing students’ motivation to learn the language. All teachers also improved their ability to self-assessment because of the travel reports, workshops and work with the Europass language passport. The valuable outputs of the project include photographs of companies, certificates, educational materials (which were obtained at the language schools) as well as articles published to increase publicity of our school (especially in the newspaper “Odborná příprava”). During the project were held the total of eight preparatory language courses, ten abroad language courses, two workshops for project participants, travel lecture and discussion with pupils.
