Zone Out VET 1
Start date: Sep 1, 2016, End date: Aug 31, 2018 PROJECT  FINISHED

To send 16 disadvantaged young people and 6 accompanying adults to Cernavoda, Romania for 2 weeks during 2016/17 and then the same number again in 2017/2018 to engage in VET work based learning in social care with the host organisation. In the process the young people will develop a greater understanding of themselves, their place within the European employment market whilst developing a theoretical and practical skills base in social care These can then be transferred to any future work place. The second part of the mobility is to send 4 staff during the length of the project to undertake a staff mobility . Those involved will be young people who are socially and economically excluded. All of the young people we work with will have had experience of homelessness, drugs/alcohol addiction, poor mental health and low level criminality. Because of these issues they experience greater barriers to employment and very rarely progress into full time employment. Our partner works with three groups of children and young people; children and adults with learning disabilities, children affected by HIV and young people at risk of sexual exploitation some of whom are Romas. In addition to this our partner has excellent links with the youth criminal justice system and is able to arrange a visit to the local youth prison to see part of the criminal justice system and speak to those residing there and those who work there .This variety provides an ideal place for our learners to go and experience and learn from different aspects of social care delivered in another countrYOver the course of the mobility the learners will work in smaller teams overseen by Romanian trainers For the training in Romania we have agreed that we will work with a 1-3 coaching scheme where one trainer will be responsible for explaining, modeling and overseeing various pieces of work for 3 learners . The training and modeling will be divided into 4 main themes 1. working with children and adults with disability 2. working with people who are vulnerable to trafficking s 3. working with children with additional health needs 4. Understanding the criminal justice system and the place of restorative justice The young people will travel as one group and will be accompanied by 6 mentors from Scotland to support the learners To develop an understanding of different views and belief patterns and interact in a respectful non discriminatory way. To value self and gain confidence and address cycle of poor achievement  To raise personal expectations and aspirations about oneself. Help the individual maintain optimum mental health and reduce worry and isolation To develop an altruistic attitude which allows the participant to realise than s/he can assist others in similar circumstances.  To develop a sense of self worth and self belief which will enhance future chances of employment.  To develop the ability to work as a team and contribute to a project that encourages joint working To have option of providing a positive reference for potential employers Develop coping strategies
