Zavod O - Build Up
Start date: May 1, 2016, End date: Oct 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The main idea of Build up EVS short-term project s to involve equally a group of international volunteers into action group of local activists, who are preparing the relaunch of the activities of Zavod O, main youth organization in a small Central European town Škofja Loka, Slovenia. We intend to connect Central Europe with European South and European North, as we invited to Slovenia for 2 months, from 4. july to 31. august 2016, 2 volunteers from Portugal and 2 from Latvia. Preference in selection will be given to young people with fewer opportunities, unemployed, early school leaving youth and the deprived ones due to their economic and geographical circumstances. The main activities of the Build up project are: to define together with young local activists further direction of the organization, to organize and carry out programme activities of Zavod O, from various cultural events, music festivals and so on, in this way the participants will get familiar with the work of youth organizations and organizing cultural events from within. We will document our activities through video and audio recording which we will be edited by ourselves. Another main activity is to restore the infrastructure of Zavod O with working principles of DIY and DIWO. We will transform the garden behind Youth Centre Pri rdeči ostrigi and the interior of the youth center as well. The emphasize will be on the importance of sustainable development of society and raising the ecological awareness among young people. We will organize a series of workshops, such as working with wood and metal, landscape architecture, sustainable living, video production, art production, minor construction works, sound-engineering and re-use of already used materials. The main objectives of the project are to educate informally young unemployed people, equip them with competence, experience, knowledge and skills to be more employable and to be able to successfully compete in the labour market, while in at the same time offer them a positive experience of international exchanges through which we will promote mobility of young people and employment opportunities in other EU countries. Through the content that will be carried out according to the principles of DIY and DIWO, young people will gain experience that will prove them that they are able and capable to repair and re-use various tools, objects, materials, without paying the expensive plumbers, architects, designers and other professionals. This supports the idea that people can create by themselves from materials which can be already worn out for some purpose, but can be still very useful for some other purpose. With this attitude we encourage young people to hold more active position and attitude towards their own lives, in which they are not only consumers but active co-creators of their environment and their own future. Not only the volunteers who will be hosted will gain from the project, but also local young people involved as activists in our organization, as they will participate in an international team, where they will learn from one another in a multicultural environment. Through it they will gain for such a small town as Škofja Loka, yet very much needed European dimension of viewing the world. At the same time, we will present and promote the Erasmus + programme among local youth and motivate them for participating at any of the existing programs in the future. In this way, through the examples of good practice, we will significantly impact on the increase of mobility of young people. In addition, the project aims to positively influence and spread the values of the EU among other residents of the local community many local residents will be indirectly involved since into the project through collaboration with various organizations and individuals. Also special promotion of the project will be made through organization of planned cultural events. Because of the working method used in the project, that is, community work, connecting actively the volunteers with local residents and local active young volunteers, we will also promote inter-generational cooperation, transferring of knowledge and skills from older to younger and solidarity among young volunteers.
