We have noticed that at our school the level of interest in terms of learning languages is very low with our students. We have also realized that students' knowledge about other European cultures is not very good. In fact the level of general knowledge was not good. That is why we have decided to start a project which would enhance general knowledge, increase the students' interest in learning foreign languages, improve the students' knowledge about other European cultures and strengthen our European identity. The project was divided into two parts. In the first part three language teachers (English and German) from our school took part in language and methodology courses in Great Britain and Germany. There they gained knowledge and skills in the area of methodology, history, sociology and they improved their language skills since they don't have the opportunity to practise languages in their native environment. During their courses the teachers met their colleagues from other European countries and they were able to widen their social network which will enable future cooperation. In the second part the teachers revised their yearly teaching plans and made changes so that they followed the project's goals and guidelines. They introduced their students with the changes: emphasis on the practical side of learning languages, finding penfriends from other European countries with the help of eTwinning platform, discussing European topics, subject correlations with geography, history and ethics, etc. Teachers regularly checked the learning process and made adjustments if necessary. The expected results were bigger recognizability of our school in the local region as well as on the wider level, better quality of the language learning process, better knowledge of languages, European Union and building the European identity. We didn't expect our project to be only short term related but we anticipated that after the end of our project we would continue with it if it proved to be successful. We expect our students to have better knowledge of languages when they finish with elementary schooling and continue to be successful in their future education. As for our school we expect further projects in the future which will improve our connection with Europe.
