Youth worker Cork YMCA
Start date: Sep 1, 2014, End date: Aug 28, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

The project is based in the Youth Information Centre of Cork YMCA. The YIC aims to actively promote young people’s development through the provision of a comprehensive and user friendly information and advisory service responsive to their needs providing them with the information and skills necessary to make informed life choices. The aim of this project is to develop and enhance the work and life skills of the individual and to add value to some of the youth work carried out in the YMCA by offering a European dimension through informal contact and structured sessions. In addition we aspire to enhance the mental health support aspect of our work through examining appropriate project case studies in the sending country. The volunteer was part of the Health team delivering Heart n Soul to in-house groups and externally. The volunteer was involved in formal group work sessions, non formal youth café settings and in formal information giving presentations. The impact on the individual in terms of specific skills and language competences gained we estimate was considerable. The organisation benefited in terms of new perspectives, energy and creativity which EVS has always brought. It also enhanced the profile of YMCA and Erasmus+ in the ways described above in the application. The young participants in Cork YMCA greatly enjoy and benefit from the experience of a relationship with someone from another country in their midst.
