Youth to be european
Start date: Aug 1, 2016, End date: Jul 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

The association "Colin-Maillard" was created in 1993. It sets up educational project for children and young people of the territory to meet the public's needs and the values it upholds. It adheres to Francas, popular education federation, and acknowledges in its values: peace, humanism, solidarity, secularism, freedom, equality. The project of European youth exchanges emerged from the following finding: issues related to mobility in this rural area are a hindrance to cultural openness and the development of local and European citizenship. The project objectives are the development of social and civic competences: enable young people to live an intercultural experience, promote expression and cooperation, and enabling their participation around a collective project. This project aims to enable young people to realize that they have a place on their territory and they can be actor. The expected impact is the awareness of the link between the local and the global (Europe). The project results in a European exchange in Cajarc (a little city into the west south of france), which will bring together 24 young people aged 15 to 17 for 8 days to live an intercultural experience. A presentation of the project for young people of the territory, will identify potential participant, prioritizing young people with social difficulties and / or financial. The project is composed of three time:Before the exchange :-In each country, Leaders will organize some meeting with youth to prepare them to live an intercultural meeting. Discussion will be on the topic of their participation as citizens in a territory, on the representation of the difference. It will help youth to enter in an intercultural process. During the exchange in Cajarc:- The start of the holiday will be spent on the construction of the group. Young people share intercultural activities they have prepared beforehand. Young people will also explore the surrounding environment through collective activities and games in order to create links between the group members.- Then the youth will realize short films that evoke their perception of participation and their place as a writer / actor living in their territory. Under the French / Polish mixed groups will be formed. Each sub group will realize a short film dealing with a look of youth participation. A filmmaker will support the youth in the realization of their short movies. - Finally one evening will value the made short films and create exchanges between the group of participants and the local community (residents, elected officials, parents, ...). These exchanges will be made at a friendly projection evening open to all, organized by young people. The aim is to promote youth participation in their territory. After the exchange: - Following the exchange, work with the respective groups will continue. Leaders will have to support potential projects that will emerge following the exchange. A link between the two groups via internet will keep contact between young people and follow the achievements of each other, to share experiences of participation, to discuss the difficulties encountered and satisfactions.Following envisaged in this project is a further exchange between the two groups in 2017, this time in Poland, aiming at doing the evaluation of the actions undertaken during the year following the exchange in France, and at enabling young people to build another collective project. At a time when the European differences question the political project of the European Union and where a majority of youth express a distrust of institutions, it seems important to encourage the construction of a better life together that address respect and appreciation of differences.
