Youth Power: Youth Unemployment and Entrepreneurship

In this Youth Democracy project 24 youngsters at the age of 15-18 from 6 organisations in Iceland, Turkey and Italy will be discussing and learning about unemployment and entrepreneurship. During the project the groups will share their experiences and the situation of youth unemployment in their countries, they will discuss what young people can do to fight youth unemployment and what steps to take to make themselves more capable on the work market. By working with this topic the young people will gather information about their own country to share, as well as learn from others, and hopefully they can then share their experience and newfound knowledge with other young people. They will also learn about the YiA programme and the different ways they can use the programme to further their knowledge in an informal way, and use the programmes opportunities for their own entrepreneurship. The programme will be divided into four different stages. The first stage will be the prepperatory meeting in Iceland. There the group leaders will meet along with icelandic youngsters, discuss the project, work on the main topics in workshops and decide on how continuing work for each group will be done in their home countries to prepare them for the main activity. The second stage of the project will be the work done by each group in their home countries. In this stage each group will work with their leader in workshops held at least once per month. In these workshops the young people will gather information on the situation of youth unemployment and what opportunities young people have to work on themselves and prepare for the work market, as well as opportunities for youth entrepreneurship.They will also have workshops on democracy and the YiA programme. The third stage will be the main activity, which will take place in Italy, there the groups will work in a variety of workshops focusing on democracy, human rights, youth unemployment and entrepreneurship. They will also share their findings and work together on producing a product which will help and inform young unemployed people how to work on being a successful part of the work market. The fourth and final stage will evaluation and final report. In this stage the group leaders will meet and evaluate the whole project as well as write a final report and close the project.
