Youth on the MOVE - Youth training and volunteering in grassroots sport

While young people proportionally are very active as participants in grassroots sport activities in almost all countries in the world, active involvement of young people in the organisational aspects of civil society initiated sports is often limited. This is also the case in the organisation of the grassroots sports campaign called MOVE Brasil, implemented by project partner SESC. At the same time, youth engagement and volunteering in the European-wide NowWeMOVE campaign has grown steadily and this has gained some first and very valuable experiences worth sharing. This project aims to do just that.The overall objective is to engage more young people from Europe and Latin America actively in grassroots sport campaigns and initiatives promoting healthier lifestylesSpecific Project Objectives and activities1) Build capacity for youth engagement in Latin American youth and sport oriented organisations with a starting point in Project Partner SESC (Brazil) • Exchange and transfer of European experience from the NowWeMOVE Campaign and European Partners during project lifetime• Deliver high profile Latin American dissemination/exploitation event for 30 stakeholders/youth workers from the whole continent and subsequent follow-up.2) Innovate an international Training and Volunteering Platform for blended non-formal learning opportunities for youth (18-30) in the field of grassroots sports • Training and volunteering Platform using Expert input, IT communications, cross-border peer learning, volunteer support and event development “buddy system” delivered 3) Continuously enhance young people’s competencies to deliver community-based grassroots sport initiatives and offers and provide them a unique opportunity of two major ongoing campaigns in Europe and to test their skills in real life • Train 2x30 young people (18-30) during the project using the Platform and setting up their own community engagement events and grassroots sports activities• Exploit the Training and Volunteering Platform to continue peer learning, idea development, and campaign engagement during and beyond project lifetime4) Disseminate and exploit the project results to a targeted European and Latin American audience• Dissemination event in Barcelona, involving 30 key stakeholders and youth workers from youth and sport organisations from 20 different European countries • Full exploitation strategy via campaign partners in second half of project• Adjust the European NowWeMOVE campaign and the MOVE Brasil campaigns to be fully accessible platforms for young people to engage onThe project thus combines • longer term sustainable action – capacity building both in Latin America and Europe• innovative learning opportunities – Training and Volunteering Platform• short term training of young people and very concrete opportunity to apply what they learned• systematic dissemination and exploitation
