Youth on Board
Start date: Jun 17, 2014, End date: Dec 17, 2014 PROJECT  FINISHED

“Youth on Board” was an innovative youth project designed to build knowledge and understanding in youth related road safety situations and to demonstrate the health and environmental effects of driving and road usage in general. Young people from Belgium, Georgia, Spain, Estonia and Italy came together to make our community's streets safer and environment healthier wherever we live by sharing ideas and information about eco-transport and travel. The youth exchange provided the youngsters deep inter-cultural understanding and real mutual inter-cultural experience in youth related road safety and air pollution issues in different countries. This project aimed to raise awareness and to promote actions about factors which can make the greatest impact in reducing road traffic injuries among young people. During project days participants created short video clips, posters and flyers to help raise awareness of ways to stabilize and then reduce road traffic fatalities in our local communities and around Europe. Youth as road safety ambassadors promoted mutual understanding, increased leadership skills and upon their return home as a follow up activity they translated their videos and other materials into their native tongues and distribute them to their local communities, in order to decrease road accidents. The exchange took place from the 10th till the 19th of August at the International Scout Centre Rustavi, Georgia. In order to effectively deliver the information we implemeneted the following activities using workshops, group activities and games, and interactive presentations: Team building activities, First aid workshops (theoretical and practical), workshop “Green Energy on the Streets”, Role game “Commandments for road users”, sharing and then creating materials for advertising road safety. Timing: 8 days (10-19 august 2014) Participating countries: Belgium (applicant), Georgia (host), Spain, Italy, Estonia (in application, there was also an organization from Latvia, but they cancelled their participation. In fact they just didn't react anymore and din't give any reason of their annulation in this project. This was a disappointing fact, especially for Georgian host organization GYE who had good connections with this Latvian municipality before). Number of participants: planned: 6 participants + 1 group leader from each partner real numbers: Belgium: 5 participants / 1 group leader Georgia: 9 participants / 1 group leader Spain: 6 participants / 1 group leader Italy: 4 participants / 1 group leader Estonia: 6 participants / 1 group leader Total: 30 participants and 5 group leaders (the missing participants from Belgium and Italy are replaced by Georgian ones)
