Youth for human rights
Start date: Sep 1, 2014, End date: Jul 31, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

The main objective of the project is the human rights protection and education in Lithuania. European Foundation of Human Rights consist of ambitious young people of different professions and interests, who work towards a model of society of citizens, who are more tolerant and conscious of human rights and freedoms. The aim of the „Youth for human rights“ project is to raise people awareness on the human rights, tolerance, equality, racism, discrimination, peace culture, nationalism and intercultural dialogue. Since we work also on legal grounds, offering free legal aid and advice, the mission of the project is to also inform wide circles of citizens on national and international law system and their rights and freedoms that are protected by national and international legal system. The international volunteers will strengthen the informational campaign using both traditional methods (preparing reports, press releases, leaflets etc) and modern methods of getting to the people (performances, blog writing, using social media for promotion, screening documentaries and organizing social debates). The EVS volunteers will also join the educational campaign, which is based on bringing non-formal education into schools, kindergartens and universities. The main target group of the EFHR activities are national minorities, as they constitute a considerable part of the whole population of Lithuania (about 16%) and inhabit the capital and the areas around the capital. There is a great need of promoting the integration of the whole society, social cohesion and removing the barriers that split the society into the minority and majority, raising nationalism on both sides. One of the objectives of the project is to promote an integral model of the society, promoting the European community model, EU values and culture of peace. Apart from the informational campaign and educational work, the EVS volunteers will be involved in the research work on human rights and related topics, with a possibility to work in one team with the international law experts. The volunteers will also help to popularize the Erasmus+ programme through creating a special platform, where the volunteers will be informing about the project development, progress, summaries, publications etc. At the same time a lot of emphasis will be put on intercultural communication and intercultural environment development in the organization, which at the same time will be beneficial both for the EFHR workers and for the volunteers, who get an opportunity to work directly in the field of human rights protection.
