Youth against hate speech online
Start date: May 1, 2016, End date: Sep 30, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Project context: According to several studies by Eurostat, BAS, etc. in recent years contemporary society of the EU has faced increasing level of aggression and discriminatory attitude, which periodically leads to manifestation of various forms of violence, including racism and xenophobia, based on the prevalence of hate speech. The clash of young Europeans with this social phenomenon already occurs at an early age because of early socialization as a result of daily information and communication technologies The use of the Internet and new communication channels have some benefits, but it poses some threat as well and young people are exposed to visible, socially acceptable use of hate speech, widespread online, without having established moral and psychological barriers against discrimination on ethnic, religious and gender issues and the consequent violation of fundamental human rights.Extreme social groups and movements have managed to attract more young people and they get used to the language of hatred at an early age. School aggression has increased, as there is an increased number of cases of school and online bullying, and most often - a combination of both. Rather frequently media report cases of violence among young people provoked after exchange of harsh words online. In social media and social networks anonymous users use the language of hatred with impunity. Naturally the most vulnerable are young people.
