young workers
Start date: Jan 1, 2015, End date: Sep 30, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

As a provider of political education and youth welfare services, it is our aim to get a hold of youth, rooted in unpleasant surroundings regarding educational opportunities. The “aktuelles forum e.V.” dares to support a certain awareness of democracy and the effects of democratic processes on our society and with that the future life worlds of every young person living at present. Due to mobility projects in Europe, we would like to facilitate the progression of social and intercultural competences for the youth participating in our projects. Furthermore should a strengthening of key competences, relevant for the labour market be maintained by the experiences gained in going abroad. Aside of this, the work of remembrance is an integral part of the project. A direct confrontation with the consequences of World War II and the fascistic policy in Germany, as well as in other parts of Europe during this episode, should help to grasp how essential the acceptance of responsibilities, the capability of communication and a fundamental knowledge about history, are. “Young workers” was jointly realized by participants from Germany, aged 18 - 23 and participants from the Slovak Republic, aged 20-29, that were acquired by our partners at the “Museum of the Slovak National Uprising" (SNP-Museum) in Bánska Bystrica. The youth from the national group of the “Duisburger Werkkiste” in Germany take part in prevocational qualification-actions at the aforementioned institution. The cooperation in organizing the youth exchange-programme in the Slovak Republic was inspired by the common idea of the project partners, to provide a basement for international dialogue and political education in the context of intercultural exchanges. The project was subdivided into three main parts, of which the first part was conceptualized as a preparation module, in advance of the Meeting in the Slovak Republic. For the national group in Germany, two seminar-settings were created that contained theoretical and practical exercises about communication, intercultural and social competences as well as about the transnational history of the years 1939-1945. The national group in Bánska Bystrica, besides considering the historical facets of their town and the village of Kaliste, where joint handwork activities during the Youth Exchange would conduct the engagement with the memorial work of the SNP-Museum, dealt furthermore with morals and customs in the Slovak Republic and Germany. The Youth-Exchange was meant to be the second part of the total qualification, “youngworkers” should be for the participants. A third part was planned to reflect the experiences and impacts made during the project in a follow-up module. During this last episode of the complete project it became apparent, that throughout the meeting and the common work at and about the former village of Kaliste, the youth indeed realized in a special and hitherto unknown way, how the effects of World War the II influenced the, then and today present societies and individuals. They recognized, out of their experiences, emotions and exchanges with every participant, other youth from Bánska Bystrica and many more people they met during the project, how terrible power structures could be, that ignore the worth of human dignity. It is therefore especially important to learn about the qualities of being able to open up own life worlds, try to change perspectives at times and accept a certain responsibility for the value of democratic society constructions.
