Young Editorial Teams Europe
Start date: Oct 1, 2014, End date: Mar 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

For this youth journalism project called YouEdit EU (Young Editorial Teams Europe), four youth editorial teams in four European countries joined forces for a shared journalistic effort in reporting on the main subject of European youth unemployment. With this media project, the existing community radio youth editorial teams in Hungary, Ireland, Spain and Germany are aiming to enhance their ongoing work in radio and online journalism, to internationalise their editorial work and to look at the growing issue of youth unemployment in Europe from a fresh perspective. WE ARE youths between the ages of 14 and 26 with and without disabilities, who are already active in community media work or are interested to join it. WE ARE youths with highly diverse backgrounds concerning our national, cultural and social origin. All sexes are invited the join the work. WE WANT to enhance the quality of our journalistic education and gain technical skills in online and radio journalism. WE WANT to give the European public a new view upon the problem of rising youth unemployment in the union. This can be from the viewpoint of an expert or a scientist, but also and more importantly, from the viewpoint of parts of the European young society, who are directly affected by the problem. We are the new Europe – yet nobody is asking us! WE WILL reclaim comprehensibly the topic of youth unemployment and neighbouring topics in the 18 months of the project runtime and beyond working in national editorial teams. Topics will be the financial crisis, social euqality and equity, the European political and social system and it's basic principles and many more. WE WILL, through new media and the website, work together transnationally and at all times keep in touch with all the national teams. WE WILL publish all the features, interviews, texts, videos, audios that will be produced, lots of them mulitlingually in our radio shows and on the internet. WE WILL engage development workers to give us workshops and seminars, gearing up for the medial work of a new generation. WE WILL meet for joint work at all the partner organisations of the project to learn and work jointly on our features. In this course we also are very much looking forward to meet and get to know each other and our cities and to break down barriers. WE'LL WORK locally and on the European level, in the radio and on the internet, using old and new media, transnationally and cooperatively, with open access for any interested youth. WE COMMUNICATE AND AQUIRE basic and advanced journalism skills ranging from interview techniques through feature production to live presentation; technical skills in radio and online journalism ranging from the use of mobile reporting devices through operating of a live studio to photograpy, photo editing and the use of CMS; social and societal skills like mutual understanding and transnational capacity for teamwork. WE WILL BE LEARNING with one another and from each other, in smalls group and with the entire team. WE CERTIFY our learning results and aquired skills through the YOUTHPASS system of the European Union. WE ARE CONCERNING OURSELVES with critical media literacy, competent and direct reporting, transnational cooperation between young people, identification as European citizens, social and soft skills, learning and teaching skills and a new viewpoint concerning the unemployed youth of Europe. The project aims to contribute to an enhancement of our journalistic efforts, the better and more direct mediation of the actual and palpable reasons and effects of the European financial crisis on the young people and a lasting cooperation of young media representatives all over Europe.
