Yhtä köyttä
Start date: Dec 31, 2014, End date: Dec 30, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

There has always been a great team spirit among the teachers of Lyseotien koulu. Why not to profit from this and take the spirit from the common-room to the classrooms of our school? Our project (Yhtä köyttä) aims to increase the collaboration between teachers and different subjects, to create new co-operative teaching methods and to bring lessons to new learning environments. We want to especially focus on studying how workshop-type of teaching method could benifit our school. The project also aims to establish internationality as a part of Lyseotie school's everday schoolwork. Both teachers and students of our school will get more acquainted with other European countriens, EU and the values we all share together. The results of the project will be utilised in the new curriculum of our school. 12 teachers will take part in the project. All of them have shown genuine interest towards developing their professional skills and becoming more aware of European co-operation among teachers. Teachers who take part in the project are a versatile sample of the pedagogical personnel of our school: teachers which teach in two or three schools (students aged 6-19) , special education teachers, teachers which work with the development of our school and teachers which are in superior position. The project consists of twelve mobilities. 3 teachers will travel for a job shadowing -period to ZS Kunovice school in Czech Republic. 9 participants will take part of different courses around Europe. During the mobilities we will get acquainted with outdoor education. We will learn how to include cultural heritage better into our curriculum. We will also learn new pedagogical methods for teachin e.g. maths, Finnish, history, religion, foreign languages, P.E. and arts. We are especially interested in exploring how workshops can be used in education. We will also focus on how we can create projects between different subjects. All the mobilities are also an excellent opportunity for networking with teachers and schools around Europe. The participants will have regular meetings together where they can discuss about the project and reflect the ideas and questions . We will create a website for the project and it will be open for all who are interested in our project. Participants will e.g. write there a blog about their experiences abroad. Before mobilites all the participants will thoroughly examine the possibilities how her/his activity could benefit not only the participant personally but also the whole personnel of our school. After returning home every participant will write a report and introduce the outcomes to other teachers. All the participating teachers will automatically take part of planning and writing a new curriculum for Lyseotien koulu. What will be different in our school after the project has ended? In all the schools of our municipality teachers will use new and innovative teaching methods. Pupils will have more lessons outside the classroom. Teachers will be more co-operative together and they will create new entities/courses with themes from many subjects. Both teachers and students will learn to respect our cultural heritage and see the assets of the area we live in. New and innovative software applications will be in use in the classrooms. Both teachers and students find it very natural to take part in international projects between European schools and students. We can be found in eTwinning. Teachers feel themselves motivated towards their work and European co-operation. They also feel that due to this project their language skills are improved. The project will also have long term benefits. The teaching culture in our municipality will at some level be reformed. New curriculum includes the outcomes of the project. Especially new teaching methods and international work on all the school levels are clearly taken account in the curriculum. We will have skills and motivation to plan and administer new international projects. Both teachers and students in Sonkajärvi will have a bold vision for an European future!
