Yes we can! Curriculum ontwikkeling tweetaligheid
Start date: Jul 1, 2016, End date: Jun 30, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

From our vision of learning a modern language, we assume a natural proces of language acquisition. "Students aquire their new language in an authentic learning environment in which the use of the target language is necessary and natural." From this point of view, we do not use course books and we choose instruments that mimic the natural learning environment as much as possible. The English Teacher Training Programme (ETTP) helps to improve the quality of English. Teachers are trained and immersed in the English language and follow courses to improve their didactic qualities. There are 8 teachers at our school. At present, 3 of our teachers have completed the ETTP course and passed the Cambridge FCE exam. The basic principle is that every teacher will take the exam. 2 other teachers are presently following the ETTP course, the principal (and also teacher) is near native. Furthermore, we have 2 new teammembers who do not have a lot of experience in giving lessons in English and thus need to be trained. They will start the ETTP course next schoolyear. In addition to the course (ETTP) and exam (FCE) we see it as a great value that teachers become more professional through an exchange programme. Teachers will be immersed for 5 days in the English language, become more proficient in their didactic qualities and shall visit schools where a substantial percentage of the lessons are in English. To assist in the development of an English curriculum we have the privilege of the help of native speakers, but there is also the need for external expertise. Continuity of expertise is also a recurring topic at seminars and trainings. Finally, I would like to mention the purchase of teaching materials. We teach English using an Early English Curriculum (ECC) which is a great thematic source book. To carry out the curriculum learning materials (e.g. books) are needed. For this project we would like to use the exchange programme for all our teammembers because we are convinced that this will facilitate the reaching of our goal: giving 15% of our lessons in English in 2019.
