YE - Partner Countries - Peacepainting: The world is our canvas
Start date: May 2, 2016, End date: Oct 1, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

This project is based on our wish to be agents of peace. All partners of the project are active in youth work and observe, in their different corners of the world, a need to continue working to raise awareness of what peace means, how it can look, how we as individuals can work to promote it, and the value of peace.Given all the troubles that exist in many places around the world today, and how there seems to always be or another conflict raging, it can be all too easy to surrender to apathy. The partners involved in the project all share a commitment for encouraging our youngsters to take heart, and contribute in any way they can to promote peace in the environs. We wish to conduct one youth exchange with the project title "Peacepainting: The world is our canvas". The project activity will bring together youth groups with a target age of 16-19 years of age from three countries, Norway, Croatia and Tunisia, for 8 working days in Terråk, Norway. A total of 24 participants.Intercultural exchanges, first of all among young people, are a tried and tested means to creating new friendships across borders. But not just for the sake of it alone. We believe there is a need that our countries' young people to be given opportunities to observe, feel, learn and better understand how young people from other countries think about peace and the elements that inhibit peace. The working methods will follow the values and principles of non-formal education. The main methods that make up the framework of the project are tried and tested before by all three formal partners in their own countries as well as during previous youth mobility projects. This includes the various icebreakers, name games, teambuilding activities, and evaluation and reflection exercises. "Mission Z" is, at the time of writing, being finalised as part of the Strategic Partnership "Borderline Boardgames".The workshop about peacepainting will follow the same values and principles. The workshop will run over several of the available days, and will allow the participants will get to develop their own image of peace and commit it to framed canvas. One aim for dissemination to have the output ready for public display on one of the last days of the exchange, and also spread farther afield after the project ends. The objectives of the project are:1) To collect and share knowledge and awareness of peace and its meaning, different faces, and value.2) To encourage a feeling of being involved and important in shaping our countries' wellbeing and future with regards to fostering a culture of peace.3) To foster friendships among young people from different countries.4) To support the active involvement of young people in society, and learn concrete methods how to be a force for peace, also on an individual level.Among the expected impacts on the participants is that they will improve their competences, including skills, knowledge and attitude, in at least the following:- A broader knowledge base on the concept of peace, what peace means, can look like, etc.- Be more aware of their own role in being a force for peace on an individual level, as well as a multiplier in their own community and society.- Improve their foreign language skills.- Improve their understanding of different cultures and traditions. On local level we do wish that some of the learning points that we seek for the participants will also transmit to the local community. As we will have close interaction with a number of stakeholders in Bindal municipality and neighbouring regions, we ardently believe there will be a lot of learning for both youngsters and adults alike from experiencing the presence of youth from Croatia and Tunisia, as well as seeing the exhibition they will create alongside Norwegian youth. On an international level we hope there will be an impact on the local communities of the participants from Croatia and Tunisia (both Sousse and Sfax). Some of our desired impact on the national and international level runs along the same lines as our expected and desired impact on the participants. We wish to raise the awareness of the everlasting importance of the topics we are working with in this project, as well as share knowledge and ideas about the different situations, settings and scenarios we will be working with during the project. Even after the project has been concluded, we hope that the participants will continue to act as multipliers of the project's objectives, using some of the skills and methods they have learned. Our dissemination strategy of trying to have some of the painted images put on display in various institutions will, we believe, further promote both the method and the way of thinking.
