Work with pure children and disable youth in Azerbaijan

The main priority of the project is a work of one volunteer in the Maryam Centre in Baku, capital of Azerbaijan, for a period of three and a half months. The centre is aimed at poor, socially weak children and young people of all nationalities, religions and sex. The project’s objective was reached through the service of a Slovak volunteer, Veronika Duricova, who provided the children and young people with good-quality education and other creative activities in order to improve their chances of getting a job and to teach them how to spend their free time in a proper, meaningful way. Above mentioned activities helped do develop solidarity, mutual cohesion and understanding between people from different culture and religion, thus it leaded to strenghtening social cohesion among representatives of European Union and Caucasus region, namely Slovakia and Azerbaijan. The volunteer taught English and Russian, organized sport activities, knowledge contests, courses that improve creativity and other activities for children and young people. Moreover, she helped to organise children camps during the holidays. On the occasions of national feasts or other holidays the volunteer organized cultural and other social events. These activities leaded not only to enhancing level of education, but also to broadening of knowledge about the other culture which was enriching both for the Azerbaijani people and for the volunteer as well as for receiving and sending institutions.
