Work Placement to Sweden
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

This exchange project would give trainees from the Further Education sector at Enniscorthy Vocational College the opportunity of completing three weeks work placement in Vasteras, Sweden. The plan would be that eighteen trainees each year would be selected from the following Departments: Beauty Therapy, Hairdressing, Pre-Science, Nursing, Childcare and Business. The profile of the trainees would vary some would be students who have just completed their Leaving Certificate while others mature students returning to education in an effort to upskill. The trainees would be accompanied by two Course Directors and would also receive support and assistance from key personnel in Sweden. The project would allow trainees the chance of personal development in certain key areas such as teamwork, adaptability and exposure to different work practices and culture. The experience would increase their awareness of their European identity and the benefits this can provide them in their future careers specifically in relation to the concept of mobility. All trainees would be carefully assigned to work placements that best fit their training and learning needs. As Enniscorthy Vocational College has this partnership with Carlforsska Gymnasiet for over six years there is an excellent understanding regarding the nature of the work placements required by the Irish trainees. The impact envisaged will impinge on all involved however focusing on the trainees the hope would be that they would become more critical in their thinking engaging in reflective practice. The impact should be that they realise that the skills/knowledge that they have are transferable and can be used in other countries. From their experience it is hoped that they would feel more empowered, confident and optimistic about their future careers. Also they should realise the importance of continuously evolving as a person through availing of personal development opportunities. Potential long term benefits might mean that the number of trainees involved in the exchange might be increased and in time involving other departments and there might be the possibility of tutors job shadowing in Sweden so as to gain extra knowledge and skills to aid them with their teaching.
