work and learn
Start date: Sep 1, 2016, End date: Aug 31, 2018 PROJECT  FINISHED

Many companies complain about the low qualifications of applicants and trainees. Nevertheless also trainees realize that they miss the opportunity to practice their vocational skills in a European environment.Trainees from industrial companies form the the majority among the commercial students at our vocationals school, therefore we identified the core requirements of these two parties (industrial companies and their trainees) . The needs are: more self - initiative as well as improved, business oriented language skills. The acceptance of an internship abroad is very high among the cooperating companies, they appreciate the school´s efforts to internationalise vocational education. Nevertheless all parties see the lack of possibilities for trainees to work and learn abroad.Through an intership abroad the 15 participating trainees prove and improve key competences, and enhance their chances on a European labour market. The four participating teachers do not only gain organisational and operative skills but also broaden their knowledge concerning ECVET through cooperating with the more skilled Dutch colleagues. The activities are as follows (in chronological order): Evaluation to find out the needs of the participants; selecetion of the participants; linguistic and cultural preparation of the participating trainees; finding suitable companies in the Netherlands; checking the sufficiency of the documents needed for an internship abroad; trainees phone the companies abroad to get the latest information needed; monitoring of the trainees by the contact person in the Netherlands; trainees send weekly reports to Germany; participating teachers go to the Netherlands to contact companies as well as to cooperate with the partner school concerning ECVET; evaluation directly after the internship abroad through a standardised survey; handover of the Europasses during a meeting of all HR- managers of industrial companies in Osnabrück; dissemination of the results via school´s and companies´ websites. We expect improved qualifications for the participating trainees. Companies themselves can gain an improved public image as they offer their trainees the chance to work and learn abroad. An additional result should be that the recruitment of stuff can be done across borders. A European job market enhances the chances for trainees and companies. Internationaling traineeship through the use of ECVET will be of benefit to everyone concerned.
