Wolontariat w Centrum Żydowskim w Oświęcimiu
Start date: Aug 1, 2014, End date: Oct 31, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

The Auschwitz Jewish Center is the only remaining Jewish presence in Oswiecim, the town renamed ?Auschwitz? during World War Two. The Center consists of the Chevra Lomdei Mishnayot Synagogue, the Jewish Museum and the Education Center, and has a two-fold mission: To provide a place to learn about the vibrancy of Jewish culture in Oswiecim before the Holocaust and to teach about the modern dangers of antisemitism and xenophobia. The Center organizes numerous educational programs, as the most appropriate commemoration to the Holocaust. These programs are both targeted and cross-cultural, and currently include educational seminars for Polish students, monthly educational and cultural events for local residents, dialogue meetings, educator?s workshops, the summer program for US military academies, and the Bridge to History for graduate students. Following an intensive month-long induction and training program on Jewish, Holocaust, and Polish history on arrival, the international volunteers was primarily involved in the projects with youth groups at the Auschwitz Jewish Center. The training made the volunteers prepared to work with groups. During a group?s visit the volunteer was responsible for showing the group aroun the Center, introducing them to the synagogue and basic information about Jewish life perpering the Center film ready for screening and leading groups in tours of the city and the Jewish cemetery Volunteers were also given ongoing special projects on which to work. Volunteers were also expected to assist with other visiting groups to the Center, in particular English-language speaking groups, and to be involved in larger Center projects, such as the annual March of the Living and international dialogue meetings. International volunteers allow the Auschwitz Jewish Center to appropriately provide for and educate the numerous groups that visit Oswiecim, and their presence at the Center promotes dialogue and tolerance.
