"Wissen und Milch für die Jugend"

Brief summary of the project “Knowledge and Milk for the Youth”1. Project background: overarching goal of quality improvement at the Viennese secondary school “BRG2 Vereinsgasse” with students from more than thirty different countries; due to the planned merger with another Viennese secondary school, new measures concerning autonomy should be implemented2. Project objectives: Mrs. Renelt's “three-pillar model”, gain knowledge in the fields of education and training (e.g. new ways of teaching), become familiar with the Finnish school system (e.g. break arrangement, daily healthy refreshments such as “free milk” for all students), test the effectiveness of innovative policies and the transferability to Austrian schools3. Number and profile of participants: Mrs. Renelt Iwona, M. Sc. is the only participant, her qualifications: 31 years of teaching experience in German and geography/economics at a Viennese secondary school, certificated coach and mentor in the field of reading comprehension, certificated DaZ-teacher (German as a second language), numerous training schemes at the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences in the city of Vienna4. Depiction of activities: lesson planning and preparation in cooperation with Finnish colleagues, exchange of experience and knowledge in Finland, written follow-up documentation and evaluation at the end of the project5. Project execution: organisation of the entire stay in Finland including financing, compilation of appropriate teaching and training materials (concerning diverse learning forms, discussions, video messages, impartation of cultural knowledge e.g. lyrics from Mozart to Fendrich), newly acquired skills and knowledge will be introduced to Austrian teachers by the multiplicator Mrs. Renelt, collaboration and knowledge alliances with the Finnish school via e-Twinning, implementation of further projects such as student exchange programmes (e.g. Mini-Erasmus)6. Results/effects/benefits: mutual exchange of a “welcoming culture”, long-term quality improvement at the Viennese secondary school “BRG2 Vereinsgasse”
