Wissen, Können und Handeln im modernen Fremdsprachenunterricht
Start date: Jun 26, 2014, End date: Jun 25, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

Knowledge, skills and action in modern secondary language classrooms Gymnasium am Krebsberg in Neunkirchen wants to give its modern language lessons an orientation dedicated to action: knowledge and skills are the basics for using a secondary language adequately and communicatively in real-life situations. Secondary language teaching which furthers a practical application of the language and takes intercultural aspects into consideration is highly motivating for students as well as teachers, making a substantial contribution to quality assurance. In order to achieve this goal, three teachers are going to participate in different further trainings in the course of the year. In the context of action-oriented secondary language teaching, one teacher is going to visit an English partner school with the aim of getting acquainted with the school's organisation, rhythmization of timetables, and testing of competences. There is going to be a particular focus on subjects such as Biology and History, for which our school is planning to install content and language integrated learning modules. Two teachers are going to participate in further training in France and Spain which focus on action-oriented methods for French and Spanish teaching respectively. By taking part in the above mentioned activities, these teachers will build on their language and methodological competence. They will get to know methods and structures which further independent learning based on the students' everyday lives. These teachers will make us of the acquired competences in their own classes as well as in internal trainings for colleagues. Furthermore, the participants will contribute to teacher training and examination boards. Gymnasium am Krebsberg attaches great importance to modern secondary language teaching, which in collaboration between European partners qualifies for effective written and spoken communication in real-life situations. Through action-oriented teaching which combines competence and skills students acquire a thorough knowledge which they apply profitably in classes, exchange projects and later at university and in their jobs.
