Project background: The Europagymnasium Auhof is an international school housing three branches, namely: The Linz International School Auhof (L.I.S.A.), a bilingual type of secondary school with general education and English as its primary language based on the educational principles of intercultural learning and internationality. The European Languages Linz Auhof (ELLA) focusing on European languages – French in particular – and offering CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning). The Kepler Realgymnasium, focusing on science. Students graduating from this branch also have a sound knowledge of two foreign languages minimum. The self-evaluation panel of the school (SQA) is an internal advisory body evaluating the consistent further development of the school in order to guarantee the high teaching standards and to further increase them. As part of this quality management process, the aims for the period from 1.6.2015 to 1.6.2017 have been determined: quality improvement, new didactic experience and additional exchange programmes to facilitate European cooperation. Concrete measures: The secretaries Claudia Stadlbauer and Franziska Bauernfeind are doing an intensive language training course in Malta and Hastings, Southern England. The following teachers are going to take part in various courses: Florian Wakolbinger is going to do an intensive language training course in Dublin in July 2016. Andrea Obermayr-Rauter is attending a CIT course for Englisch teachers in Malta. The teachers Agnes Plöchl and Andrea Handlbauer are attending a course for French teachers in Vichy in August 2015. Ingrid Wochner and Michaela Kiesenhofer are going to attend a course for French teachers in Brest in July 2016. Michaela Gornik is doing an intensive language training course in Brest in July 2015. Maria Sonnleitner is job shadowing in Turin from 26.9. to 10.10.2015. Effects on the school: Increased administrative quality: The secretaries are primary contact persons in all administrative matters for national as well as international students, parents and teachers. Through the training activities communication with school partners will be facilitated and improved, which increases school quality. Quality improvement relating to teachers: • improved professional and foreign language competence • increased quality of classes and student skills • improvement of the methodology and didactics of foreign language teaching (increased use of fun activities and games, authentic materials, better preparation and implementation of projects) • getting familiar with the latest trends in CIT • ’needs assessment’ among students and reflection on materials and methods used • deeper understanding of social, linguistic and cultural diversity • expanding your personal horizon • deeper understanding of the current political, cultural and social situation of the host country • cultural exchange between individuals and institutions • first-rate representation of the school in foreign countries during future language- and project trips • establishing international contacts and further internationalisation of the school • job shadowing: expansion of European cooperation Multiplier effect: The newly acquired knowledge and methods are shared with expert colleagues in internal conferences and team meetings, materials will be made available on our online platform Moodle. All the measures mentioned above help increase school and teaching quality, facilitate international cooperation and enhance communication with external partners. The self-evaluation panel of the school is involved in this process and will be evaluating the competences acquired.
