Werken aan een internationaal georiënteerde school met aandacht voor verschillen
Start date: Aug 1, 2016, End date: Jul 31, 2018 PROJECT  FINISHED

Context/background of project:Lek en Linge would like to send bilingual teachers who teach in various disciplines abroad for training. In addition to training we would like our teachers to be able to visit schools and attend conferences abroad (including job shadowing and/or job swapping). As a secondary benefit of these pursuits abroad, partnerships and networks with other European schools would be established more efficiently, quickly, and effectively. Objectives of your project:By sending more employees abroad, projects and/or lesson preparation concerning European citizenship will prove less abstract and daunting and subsequently easier and more practical to achieve. As one of our core objectives is to educate students to be responsible European citizens, we see the inclusion of international content in all lessons as crucial. This international content becomes even more attractive and relevant to students whenever they are in contact themselves with peers who live abroad.Number and profile of participants:12 participants and 9 participants. Lek en Linge organizes its working culture based on employee feedback—meaning that in the annual evaluation the management team offers different courses for their employees. Lek en Linge expects employees to also propose possible continuing education ideas. Together they decide what kind of training is most suitable and beneficial. Description of activities:To achieve a greater space for internationalization, it's key to bring Europe into the classroom. There is a wide range of activities that all start with preparation and inspiration. Teachers can find that inspiration and the various contacts needed when abroad. With these activities we aim to achieve something of a snowball effect: the more colleagues who are enthusiastic the better, and the enthusiasm will spread to the students, who will in turn learn more about Europe.Methodology to be used in carrying out the project:Lek en Linge is an innovative and dynamic school wherein teachers work together using contemporary ideas and methods to shape and offer quality education. Lek en Linge aims to create a positive and supportive atmosphere for all employees who enjoy doing their part in providing the best education possible. Essential to our mission statement is stimulating learning across all disciplines and challenging students to be the best versions of themselves. Our most pertinent working point in the years to come is improving upon and reinforcing our already high quality of education, an undertaking which of course involves supporting teachers in their pursuit of further education and new, relevant classroom practices. The skills and experience teachers develop through training and activities abroad fit aptly into the school’s future goals. Moreover, participating employees will share their new knowledge and experiences abroad with their educational team members in the Netherlands, creating something of a trickle-down effect. As best practices are adopted by multiple teachers, even more students will be exposed to new ideas and methods, thus improving our overall internationalization. Short description of the results and impact envisaged and potential longer term benefits:Due to the fact that teachers are working actively on their own professional development of which they have taken ownership, they will be able and eager to share their experiences with colleagues.By conducting evaluations in educational teams, subject departments, and other work groups, the impact of these experiences will be more clearly visible. The enthusiasm of other colleagues will also be stimulated in this way. Our ultimate objective is that we can collectively provide the students with an internationally-minded curriculum that is taught by internationally-oriented teachers who have experiences and education abroad. In other words: students are supported in becoming civic-minded, responsible European citizens. SEE ALSO: "European Development Plan" and "Omschrijving van de organisatie"
