Welcome Europe! The Macé-Arago school welcomes pupils coming from very different social environments and cultural backgrounds. Through a project upon European culture and citizenship, the teachers wish to broaden their pupils' horizon. The school has got two interactive whiteboards, eighteen laptops and a video-projector. Last year, the nursery school teachers created a blog. This equipment provides appropriate conditions to enable partners communication. The project will be led by two nursery school teachers and the headteacher. In the past years, one of them has already been involved in partnerships with Saudi Arabia and Finland. They want to develop language skills for very young pupils by working on listening and speaking skills. They're already initiating them to English language through songs and nursery rhymes. However, they feel they really need to improve their English language oral skills in order to use it more fluently. To achieve this goal, they wish to intend training courses, provided by SILC. These courses will enhance their linguitic and technological skills. moreover, They will enrich their cultural knowledge and current English through their stay in famlies. Back at school, they will share their experience with the primary colleagues through meetings and in their classes, through English language lessons. Each teacher will take part in the project through different activities (demonstrations, posters, articles...). The project will last two years. Year 1 The partners will exchange on several topics: -The discovery of their schools (a day at school) -Calendar festivals. -Exchanging songs, nursery rhymes, fingerplays, dances Primary school pupils will work on posters, exhibitions about European countries an d culture. All pupils will join through the "School choir". They will learn and sing partners'songs. Year 2 Partners will increase year 1 topics. - The discovery of their own towns or villages - Exchanging on contemporay music and dances - Sport lessons in English - Work on storybooks. To create a story network with English,French or other partners storybooks Reports will be made throughout these two years in order to adjust the activities in accordance with the objectives. Partners will collaborate to draw a final report and highlight the positive and negative aspects of the project. They will also check wether they achived their goals or not and why. The Nursery school pupils should improve their listening and speaking skills through foreign songs and nursery rhymes. The Primary school pupils should develop their linguistic and cultural skills thanks to the teachers' experience. Thanks to this project, teachers and pupils will join and work upon a same topic: European culture and citizenship. The teachers really beleive that pupils will improve their cultural knowledge concerning some European countries and begin to feel like European citizens. It will also lead them to realize the importance of learning English.
