Project background and profile of the participants:The vocational schools in Bavaria are facing the challenge of training young asylum seekers. This requires a decent level of intercultural competence to cope with new situations. Teachers in VET-schools therefore play a key-role in this situation. With this project 25 vocational teachers, employed in the training of asylum seekers, should get the possibility to develop their intercultural competencies within a country with Muslim culture – Turkey.Project goals:With this project the ISB wants to contribute to the current focus of the program Erasmus +. The programme is responding to the refugee crisis in Europe by promoting project activities which have asylum seekers and migrants in the focus. The aim of this project is to enable teachers who teach in refugee class to gain a deeper insight into the Muslim culture. A key factor here is the recognition of teaching situations and the impact of religion and culture in the everyday life at an educational institution. This will help teachers in their work in refugee classes, to meet the challenges in a better way and to be able to deal competently with new teaching situations. Eventually, the best possible training of refugees should be ensured.Activities:In close coordination and cooperation with the two Turkish partner institutions following main activities are focused on:- Job shadowing of classes combined with the reflection of impressions- Exchange on crucial cultural topics with the Turkish teachers of the partner organizations- Workshop on intercultural competence and the preparation of a handbook for trainers- Exchange with an Imam, exchange of religious values and normsEffects on the participants and the target group of refugees:- Acquisition of contextual knowledge about the local culture and its application / recognition in their own educational work- Development of the ability to perceive cultural divergent action schemes, so that a successful handling of various situations in the classroom is possible- Development of a general ability for a "cultural understanding", which enables the teacher communicate self-confidently and authentic with people from different cultural backgrounds.- Increasing the motivation of the participants, to engage themselves in the training of refugees and to communicate this ambition among the colleagues- Increase of self-consciousness and their own authenticity towards people of different cultures- Increased job satisfaction- Improvement of the educational work with refugees with the aim to convey norms, values and virtues of our society in an optimal manner The added value for the students in the refugee classes is most likely. They will feel that their situation will be understood in a better way. Thereby they may find easier access to the culture of the majority society. The clear communication of the European target culture and their central cultural standards provide the learner a better orientation. The school contributes in the long term to a successful integration of refugees.Dissemination of results:By participating in this project, all participants are asked to convey their newly acquired knowledge and skills within further training events. This ensures that every Bavarian teacher who taught in refugee classes has the opportunity to obtain the results of this project. The presentation of the project (in German and English) via different channels (e.g. Newsletter of the ISB with a recipient of over 3000 persons throughout Europe) ensures the distribution of the project results. If necessary, the development of the trainer-manual is provided in English.
