Weiterentwicklung des Lernens und Lehrens an der MS Klaus-Weiler-Fraxern in Richtung Individualisierung und Kompetenzorientierung mit den Schwerpunkten "Bildungsstandards", "Differenzierung im Unterricht" und "Weiterentwicklung der Schulkultur"
Start date: Jul 1, 2014, End date: Jun 30, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

The project “Developing teaching and learning at general educational schools towards individualization and development of language competence“ is currently being established at the New Grammar School Klaus-Weiler-Fraxern. The actual state analysis shows that there is a need in all departments for increasing the performance levels of the standard of education, the teaching process in a class of mixed ability, how the teachers develop and deliver their specific subject to students and improve the quality of teaching and the standard of education within the school. The aim of the advanced education of teachers through the Erasmus+ programme is to contribute to, and improve the teaching methods in our school. Teachers who travel to Great Britain gain valuable experience in teaching English and can apply the teaching styles and methods, development of lesson plans, skills, and presentation of lessons learned to their English classes back at New Grammar School Klaus-Weiler-Fraxern as well as sharing what they have learned with their colleagues. The ultimate goal is to contribute to our school's development by giving teachers the opportunity to gain invaluable learning experiences through their work abroad. Their newly acquired competencies would then be implemented in their English classes back home and shared with teachers of the school. The main goals for our teachers are to increase student performance in basic English skills, challenge high-achievers and improve the education of the low-achievers. Because lessons take place in heterogeneous groups who vary in ability, our aim is to teach everyone according to his/her needs. Low-achiever's needs should be addressed by way of testing for learning disabilities and where required, by providing learning assistance on a one to one basis. All the important competencies which are based at a high level are taught and pupils are well educated for their A-Levels or University afterwards. These main goals comply with the goals of the “Strategy Europe 2020”, which says that minimum of 40% of all people between 30-34 should complete a University successfully. In the class, respect and consideration for both teacher and pupils are very important factors in providing a good learning atmosphere. Furthermore, it also needs to be part of the school culture. This can only come about if all staff and pupils work adhere to the principle of the school culture and parents/caregivers also support it. Presentation of lessons today are also by way modern technology in delivering and receiving information. Computers, iPads, sound recognition iPad programmes, DVDs, all play an important part in education and there is a need for teachers to be skilled at and know how to teach using modern technology. Teachers from different parts of Europe all have to deal with similar problems as we do. Sharing and working with teachers from other parts of Europe, UK can only enhance the teaching, learning and with communication we can share our experience and help each other in the name of 'Education.' Due to the identified needs, we have chosen the following courses and partnerships for the Erasmus+ programme: 1 „NLP for Teachers at Pilgrims in Canterbury (6/7/2014 – 19/7/2014) 2 „Active Methodology“ at Edinburgh School of English (14/7/2014 – 25/7/2014) In 2014/2015 the development project at our school will be implemented with a variety of sub-projects. Within those there is an all school involving reading project called "Reading and Writing Workshops" and a school competition in creative writing. The teaching staff is developing didactic material that allows to differentiate within heterogeneous groups. In the area of developing our school culture, the projects range from improving the self-evaluation of our students to projects for school mediation. The participants of the Erasmus+ progamme are going to actively share the experience gained in Great Britain in the context of the school development project. The new methods and skills will be shared in conferences, team meetings and in team teaching lessons. The participants are also going to share their gained knowledge through the compilation of handouts and a methodology folder. Therefore, multiplication of the gained skills is guaranteed. The students will also benefit directly as their English teachers are freshly motivated and equipped with the newest second language learning methodology. We hope for a further outcome of this project, which are future pen friends with new international partners.
