Web TV Portal - window to education
Start date: Sep 1, 2015, End date: Aug 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

For those in the education profession, finding new and innovative ways to motivate students to learn and retain valuable information whilst affording them a venue in which to develop their creative aspects is to most the "holy grail" of education. A possible avenue to get this "holy grail" is to utilize the very aspects of a student's life to "trick" them into learning. This very idea is what motivates this group of schools, from all over Europe, to work together on this project. After many consultations, a concept was created that speaks to the very hearts of young people today, regardless of race, creed, social and economic status. The concept is to create a Web TV, utilizing spontaneous, planned and scripted video bits to show a bit about their lives and studies. There would be interviews, "sit-coms", reports, news, commentaries and actual class room activities that would become available to all involved. There are at present 4 partners, equally competent, from Italy, Poland, Hungary and Turkey. The participants vary in location, such as rural and capital city locations. The schools range in size from a few hundred to close to one thousand (students, faculty and families). A wide range of participants, relating to socio-economic background, gives this project a truly diverse cross-section of the modern European society. Most of the students involved are of a lower economic bracket and would benefit greatly from the possibility of travel to a new and exotic European venue. The activities vary and are assigned to each partner to maximise the professional development. Activities include, workshops on various aspects of film and TV from preliminary stages through production and to finalizing. An online and printed multi-lingual dictionary of the most common phrases in each of the four languages involved is a key project for students. Other activities include working directly, in person, with students of the partners schools to create a Sit-com of sorts. Teachers will not be left out because many workshops relating to methodology and education will be held. A holistic and student centered approach is the methodology we have chosen. The students will have the freedom to create and learn. The teachers will, instead, act as facilitators to motivate and guide them along this fantastic journey. Of course this will all be in English or with English subtitles, so that all involved will have a chance to benefit. A primary goal is to create a sense of worth to the students to motivate them to finish their studies and develop in a direction that will create, for them, a fulfilling life. This addresses a common problem of "dropping out" of school. The impact to them would be to activate the desire to learn their own studies in school as well as learning about the world we live in, thus motivating others with their positive attitudes toward school. We hope to be able to create a long lasting program, in which students whom have not even entered school yet, will gladly continue. Where else would they be able to show the world what they are capable of. This project would be internet based and would be propagated via social media, Facebook, youtube, twitter and via local and possibly national news agencies. Using young people's lingo, "How awesome is it to have someone in France see that you live like they do?" The long term effects of such a project are great. Like school newspapers, it will endure, students want to have an outlet for their concerns, ideas and questions. The partner schools will be able to create clubs around this idea as an after-school activity. Cross curricular activities can merge on one platform, for all to view. Teachers of all subjects will be glad to have an additional source to do the job that they have be called to do. This project is a definitive source of ideas to help everyone involved in the development of our children, who are indeed the future of not only our own nations, but the European Union as well.
