We are on the move!
Start date: Sep 1, 2015, End date: Jun 30, 2018 PROJECT  FINISHED

Education being a very important element in the welfare and wellbeing of citizens in the European Union, we both wish to keep improving the educational level of the students in our schools and to keep enhancing the teaching quality of the involved teachers. In this project, “We are on the move!”, we wish to elaborate on four different teaching/learning methods: CLIL, project work, motion/active learning and IT as well as to explore teaching and learning processes as carried out in the partner schools in order for the main participating teachers to develop their teaching and thus enhance the learning outcome of the students. Through the focused work with the four methods and through experiences with other educational systems, we also wish the students to get a better knowledge of their own learning processes and hence become better learners. Other important objectives of the project are to give the students a greater awareness and comprehension of European cultural variety, to enhance their possibilities in both educational and professional life and to improve language teaching and learning for both teachers and students involved. The main participants in the project will be 2-3 teachers and 24-30 students enrolled in a so called International Class from each partner schools, but most of the school community will be influenced by the project, as well as parents to the international students, local authorities and local international networks. Year 1 of the project, the teachers involved will visit the partner schools in order to learn about other educational systems, and to explore and be inspired by good practices carried out by the partner schools. These visits will result in documents comparing the different educational systems and documents describing good practices at the schools. Year 2 and 3, students from the International Classes and the main participating teachers will work with the four different teaching/learning methods at their own school from a common guide. They will visit the partner schools where one of the methods will be in focus and where they will both experience other educational systems and other cultures and make transnational friendships. The work with the methods will result in reports made by the involved teachers using the experiences of both teachers and students. The work and the visits will also result in different kinds of presentations made by both the teachers - to be shown and shared with colleagues - and by the students to be shown to other students, teachers, parents and local authorities. All the work from the three year project will be uploaded to the public project website in order both to be used by the main participants, by other students and teachers at the schools and by other relevant stakeholders. Most of the work uploaded will be in English, but some documents, articles etc. will be in the national languages as well in order to disseminate the work as much as possible. The project will improve the students’ linguistic skills and their general knowledge, it will raise their educational aspirations and give them a better understanding of themselves, their learning processes and their own cultural identity and thus enhance the quality of their lifelong learning. Through active involvement and responsibility for the implementation of the project in the International Class, the students will also become more motivated and engaged learners. For the main teachers involved, the project will make them better and more reflected teachers, they will develop their linguistic skills and knowledge of other European educational systems and they will be even more qualified in doing international projects. The other students at the school will learn more about the partner schools and other European cultures, they will experience real life meetings with foreign students and they will get an opportunity to use English in an authentic way. As regard the teaching/learning methods they will also get a better understanding of their own learning processes; an understanding they can use in their further education. The other teachers at the school will learn more about the partner schools, about other educational systems and other European cultures, they will experience real life meetings with foreign students and teachers and they will get an opportunity to use English in an authentic way. All of this can inspire them and improve their teaching. Other teachers and other relevant stakeholders will benefit from the project through the public project website and through educational websites. The four partner schools in general will benefit a lot from the project: Inspiration from and knowledge about other European countries and educational systems and meetings with foreign students and teachers. Furthermore, the project will promote the schools as innovative and progressive in the local community.
