Waves of Democracy 2015
Start date: May 1, 2015, End date: Oct 31, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

IUC and partners want to establish a summer seminar in Soenderborg DK, hosted by the Municipality of Soenderborg and SDU (University of Southern Denmark), whose focus is to set up a platform for intercultural and political dialogue between young people from European countries (France, Germany, Czech Republic, Greece, Serbia and DK). The seminar will address important politicial issues in Europe, related to the 2020 strategy. The seminar will develop a platform for dialogue, intercultural exchange and networking by using a variety of methods and strategies - in the hope of setting up a European youth forum who will be able to make an impact on youth decision-makers in a new and engaging way. We have great expertise in project activities for young people, and we base the seminar on experiences we have gained in the proces, but this time in a more structured way. The seminar will include lectures/presentations, workshops, study visits and excursions - but with a special focus on new tools/methods in the hope of setting a more active agenda, appealing not just to young "political animals" , who are often imitations of the politicians, but to young people in general, who are interested in political issues but not in the way that the established politicians conduct business. The political discussions will be linked and presented in the form of a European narrative, and we plan an interactive communication with tourists and citizens of Soenderborg - a small but important city in the region and in the borderland of Schleswig Holstein. We expect to invite 50 participants from the partner countries, who will most likely be young people who are interested in general political issues, who are active in volunteer work and committees in their home countries. Main elements in the seminar will be: Opening ceremony - official at the Soenderborg Castle Teambuilding in the city to get to know the surroundings in a small Danish city and interact with citizens Main focus on 3 workshops (energy/infrastructure/environment, migration, history/cultural heritage) - developed by the participants in new and innovative ways with a focus on gamification and videos/cultural expressions World café - networking in new and innovative ways Study visits related to the workshop topics - Danfoss,, Dybbøl e.g. Plenary session presenting results/recommendations - Round table with policy makers from the region Video production of the seminar process and results - produced by a young Chinese webdesigner Active website, where results in the form of interviews, statements and videos will be presented The general framework of the seminar has been discussed prior to this application in different contexts: youth meetings in Berlin, General Assembly (EUNET www.european-net.org) in Prague, youth meeting in Copenhagen. These meetings and networking have created a common platform for the partners involved in the application, which will be developed in detail after May 1st, when the project period begins. The results from the seminar - as mentioned above will be available on the partner websites, on youtube and in the various networks which we know from other contexts - and the young people involved in the project will present the best practices in their home countries and at the international meetings they take part in. EUNET´s Youth Committee will follow the project closely and be part of the project, using results for future project activities. Long term benefits might be the inclusion of new methods/ways to debate Europe and make more (young) people interested in the integrations process. The seminar has been conducted exactly along the lines described above - 51 delegates from the partner countries have participated. The results (statement, video etc.) have been placed on IUC´s website and other relevant platforms. The seminar has been evaluated by the participants and the results will be used to further develop the Waves concept (please see below)
