Water Protection in Berat’s Community
Start date: Jan 1, 2015, End date: Mar 1, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The futur project lead by the CRIJ Limousin and the Berat municipality will aim at reinforcing cooperation between France and Albania around water ressources protection and governance. It will imply a French volunteer during a whole year who will participate to awareness campaigns around water resources issues and to the realization of a study around water governance in Albania. This project will also make Albanian youth more active around water issues faced by the city and to create opportunities for them to participate more in the cultural and social life of the city. The volunteer will lead actions in local schools by organizing workshops and activities around water resources protection : drawing workshops around water issues (floods, human impact on aquatic environment etc.), drawings exhibition during events (awareness raising meetings, World Water Day...), river visits, cleaning riverbanks, installation of water rise level markers... The volunteer will support the Municipality and the youth groups in the city of Berat such as the Youth Parliament, the Outdoor Ambassadors, Friends of the Monuments etc. to organize activities that aim to enhance youth participation in the life of the local community. They will organize events to make youth more informed on the work and issues faced by the Municipality of Berat. The volunteer will design and implement trainings with the local counterparts to raise the capacities of youth that adhere in these youth groups. Youth will be more aware on the need to participate actively in governance. The volunteer will also participate to the realization of a report on water governance in Albania, in the continuity of the FAREP project lead with a French federation, the SICALA, around the management and protection of rivers and aquatic life. The aim is to share experience and skills on water resources management and to fit to the European Water Framework Directive. The project will enhance cooperation between French and Albanian communities. This report will also clarify the role of all the local actors and partners (experts, elected representatives, users). To achieve this action, meetings with influential persons will be organized. In the end, the report will lead to a comparison between French water governance and Albanian one and it will emphasize positive aspects of both systems in order to find solutions to achieve European objectives.
