War Against School Failure
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

The project revolves around the school's umbrella goal to minimize school failure and fight early school leaving. The philosophy behind it is that the school will "re-build" first year students' foundations in key literacy subjects such as Greek, Math, English and Physics. The fortified knowledge and skills acquired will in turn boost students' morale and motivation and together with a side-program in extra-curricular activities will combat illiteracy and low-self esteem, will lead to educational success. At this early stage of this process the school seeks to acquire information on best practices on the subjects of student motivation (general and in the four key literacy subjects) from experts in Europe in order to better redesign the program. The participants will attend training seminars and workshops and when back home will work with a team in redesigning and implementing the program. Constant monitoring and evaluations are vital for success. The desired results would be to reduce school failure and early school leaving. The expertise acquired and tools used for all stages of the program would not only have an impact on the war against school failure in our school, but could be shared among other schools in Cyprus and abroad, and, why not, utilized as a hotbed for further cooperations with other educational institutes and stakeholders, both in Cyprus and abroad.
